KSPO runs a welfare service for athletes and coaches who
have dedicated their services to the country.
The KSPO runs a welfare service to support athletes, including Korean national team players
and coaches, future national team players with a promising future, and players who
experience difficulties after retirement, etc.
Field of applications
Research Annuity Designed to Enhance Athletic Performance
Eligibility: Persons who have won an international competition and have earned 20 or more evaluation points.
Standard: Evaluation points will be allocated according to the ranking or awards won in international competitions
Research grant for game coaches
Eligibility: Coaches who have trained national players or teams and contributed to winning medals.
Standard: Evaluation points will be allocated according to the ranking or awards won by the trained players in international competitions
Special subsidy
Eligibility: Athletes who have made significant contributions to the development of Korean sports or the promotion of national prestige, but who have financial
difficulty in earning a living (general subjects, special subjects).
Subsidy for the protection of players and coaches
Eligibility: (Accidental insurance subsidy) Persons who require treatment and long-term hospitalization due to serious injury, among those eligible for accident
insurance support (long-term hospitalization treatment subsidy), including national team players and coaches who participate in training or games run by
sports organizations, etc.
Standard: (Accident insurance subsidy) Shortage for hospitalization costs, surgical costs, treatment costs, etc. after paying the copay under group accident
insurance (subsidy for long-term hospitalization treatment costs).
Disability pension
Eligibility: Former national team players or coaches with a serious physical and/or mental disabilities among the beneficiaries of long-term hospitalization
treatment subsidies.
Standard:
(Grade 1) Persons who cannot carry out their daily activities by themselves and require a guardian/assistant at all times.
(Grade 2) Persons who have difficulty in carrying out their daily activities by themselves and are unable to earn a living.
(Grade 3) Persons who cannot continue with their sports career due to a partial physical disability and who have difficulty earning a living.
Subsidy for overseas study
Eligibility: Persons who have scored 40 or more points in the assessment for the performance improvement research pension among retired national team
players.
Study area: Sports-related subjects.
Range of support: Admission fees, tuition fees, airfares, cost of accommodation, etc.
Sports scholarships
Eligibility: Student players or athletes who are highly qualified, well-conducted, and have been recommended by the President of the Korean Sport & Olympic
Committee or the President of the Korea Paralympic Committee.
(General scholarship) Upper-grade winners in national level games and events held by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee or the Korea Paralympic
Committee.
(Special scholarship) Players who are selected as excellent athletes in national sports festivals held by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee or the Korea
Paralympic Committee and who have participated in player improvement training.
Welfare funds
(Life subsidies for national team players) Persons who experience economical difficulty, such as recipients of national basic livelihood guarantees, among active
national team players.
(Subsidy for a career change to sports experts) Persons whose income is not higher than 100% of the mid-level income based on the total income of family
members among beneficiaries of the performance improvement research pension.
(Graduate school scholarship) Retired members of a national team.
(Short-term training fees) Retired members of a national team.
